Energy Performance certificates are now a mandatory requirement for all homes marketed
for sale .They are a part of the "Home Information Packs" which must be provided for prospective buyers of your home.
This is to comply with the " European Union Energy Performance Of Buildings Directive " which
was agreed by all members in 2002.
The objective of which is to assist homeowners in reducing their energy consumption ,
save money on their fuel bills and also help cut carbon emmissions. Our homes account for 27% of the uk's total
carbon emmissions, contributing to global climate change.
You may have already noticed that household items such as fridges and washing machines now
include an "energy rating" tag, with A being the most efficient and G the worst. The same principle will apply to your home,
and it will be given a rating in the same way.
A prospective homebuyer will be able to see what improvements can be made to a homes efficiency
as the "energy performance certificate" also comes with a list of recommendations, which if implimented, will show the
maximum energy rating that can be achieved for that house. An average of £300 a year can be saved on fuel bills if recommendations
are implimented.
A home is assessed using a method called RDSAP ( Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure),
and all our assessors have to be qualified to government standards and hold a relevant Diploma in domestic energy assessment,
along with having been strictly vetted , so that you can rest assure that the person you are allowing into your home
is a professional, honest and trustworthy person.
The assessments themselves take around an hour or less to carry out depending upon the size
and configuration of your home.It is important to stress that it is a data collecting exercise only and is no way conected
to a building survey. From the data collected an " Energy performance certificate will be produced , containing various recommendations
for improvement if applicable. Please note that our assessors have to abide by a code of conduct , whereby they are not permitted
to offer advice on particular sources of improvement- it is up to the individual homeowner to seek quotations independently
if they so wish.
